David Pentland military art print German tanks and Assault Guns including tank prints of Michael Wittman's Counter Attack at Villers Bocage published by Cranston Fine Arts. The Military art print Company The German thoughts on Tank development during the mid 1930's was based on the requirement of one light Tank and one Medium tank. In 1935 various german Companies were given the development contracts for the new medium tank and the chosen design came from Daimler Benz. The Ausf As or SDKfz 141 was developed between 1936 and 1937. The Ausf A did not meet the requirements . and the Ausf B improved version was built in small numbers.. More modifications were developed and the Ausf C 15 being built but were withdrawn before the invasion of France in 1940. 30 new model Panzers, the Ausf D were then built and were used in Poland and also in Norway in 1940 before being withdrawn. 96 model Ausf E were built with thicker armour and powered by a better engine (Maybach HL 120 TR) this was followed with the development of the Ausf F which was fitted with a 5cm gun a total of 435 were built . More improvements were made to the design with the ,Models PanzerKampfwagen PZKpFW III Aufs H wiht a total of 308 being built the PanzerKampfwagen PZKpFW III Ausf J which had a total of 2,616 tanks built between March 1941 and July 1942. 650 PanzerKampfwagen PZKpFW III Aufs L were built in 1942 the last model PanzerKampfwagen SdKfz 141/2 was the Aufs N. Panzer PZKPFW III Ausf J production started 1941. weight 22.3 tons. Armament: One 5cm KwK L/42 with 84 rounds carried. Secondary armament Two 7.92mm machine gun .Armour: 50mm thickest and the minimum 10mm. Crew 5. Range 155 Km. Maximum Speed 40 KM per hour |

For Operation Citadel the Heavy tank battalion 503 was split into separate companies and attached to various panzer divisions. Rubbels 1st company went to 6th Panzer Division, and as such take part in the epic breakthrough on the 10th and 11th which came close to the collapse of the soviet southern front! |

Breaking the Gran Bridgehead by David Pentland. Hungary, 18th February 1945. The Soviet bridgehead across the lower river Gran threatened the important oilfields at Komorn. To deal with it, Heavy tank battalion 503 was attached to the elite Hoch und Deutschmeister Division. Then in conjunction with the 12th SS Hitlerjugend Division to the north the operation was launched and the bridgehead successfully crushed. |

Feldwebel Muller of 1st Company, Heavy Tank battalion 502, was mentioned in dispatches for his actions in the Second Battle of Lake Ladoga. During the Soviet offensive he accounted for some 25 enemy tanks and by the end of the war he had destroyed 50. |

Oberleutnant Erwin Kressmann commanded 1st company, while 1st platoon was led by the soon to be famous Lt Albert Ernst, who in an engagement during the Witebsk battles destroyed 14 Soviet tanks with just 21 rounds. |

Captain Hans Bölter - Struggle in the Snow by David Pentland. Lake Ladoga, Leningrad 17th February 1943. Oberfeldwebel Hans Bölter and his platoon leader Lt.Meyer, supporting Kampfgruppe Sudau during the Second Battle of Lake Ladoga. In a day long engagement the two Tiger Is of 1st Company, Heavy Tank battalion 502 destroyed a succession of anti-tank guns, tanks and infantry attacks. Lt Meyer knocked out 10 KV1s in as many minutes and by the wars end Hans Bolter had accounted for at least 144 enemy tanks, making him one of the great Panzer aces. |

Panther on the loose, Berlin, 2nd May 1945 by David Pentland. Hauptscharfurher Korner of SS Heavy Tank Battalion 503 makes his escape from the city in an abandoned Panther via the suburb of Staaken. On the way he destroyed a JSII, and a couple of Assault guns, before his tank broke down for a final time later that night. |
