One of the small group of SAS soldiers to come under attack at Mirbat, Oman in 1972. Under attack from around 250 enemy, less than a dozen SAS men managed to desperately defend their position against the onslaught until air support could arrive. Fijian Takavesi covered 700 yards under intense fire to assist with the firing of the 25-pdr field gun, after the gunner was wounded. Despite being so outnumbered, and losing some of their number, the battle was won and was a key turning point in the war in Oman. Takavesi later took part in Operation Nimrod - the assault on the Iranian Embassy in London, and served with the SAS during the Falklands campaign.
